Is La Casita just for Spanish speakers or bilingual families?

No, La Casita welcomes all families regardless of the languages they speak.  It changes every year but usually there are about 50% of families with at least one Spanish-speaking parent and another 50% English-speaking families.

Over the last couple of years, we have had an increasing number of children attending, from families where one parent speaks English and the other speaks another language other than Spanish, so that the child learns their 3rd language at La Casita. These children are doing particularly well at picking up Spanish.

How do I book a viewing?

Click on the ‘Book Viewing’ button and we’ll contact you at the earliest opportunity.

How do I book a space for my child?

Once availability for the days you require is confirmed, you’ll receive an email with full details for booking process.

What’s the ideal age for my child to join?

The answer is easy…the earlier the better!

There is scientific evidence that children who are exposed to a second language from an early age not only achieve much better results in languages, but also in maths, science and music, and in general helps build brain power and cognitive skills

Is La Casita linked to the Bilingual Primary School (BPS)?

There is no link although about 50% of our pupils apply to BPS, given the common bilingual education component.  Please see the BPS admission’s criteria.

Will my child become bilingual?

The saying goes ‘You get out what you put in’.  Think of a week in sessions: 7 days = 14 sessions.  A child attending Monday to Friday (10 sessions) will obviously have far more exposure and understanding than a child attending 2 days (4 sessions).  Other factors which influence the outcome is how outgoing your child is and how happy he/she is to use the new language.

Do we need to speak Spanish at home for my child to join?

Absolutely not.  We have a good mixture of English-speaking-only families and families with one parent who speak Spanish or even another language.

How can we practise Spanish at home if we don’t speak Spanish?

We are always happy to liaise with parents and can provide links to audio books, music and other resources in Spanish.

We speak Spanish at home but my child is refusing to speak. Will attending help?

It will definitely help.  Children feel far more at ease with a language is ‘normalised’ and can see a whole community speaking it, rather than just mum or dad.
